Activision has recently released the patch notes for Warzone 2 Season 6, which includes a variety of weapon balancing, content updates, and Halloween-themed operator skins. Among the changes, the Kastov-762 seems to have been hit the hardest.
Kastov-762 Nerfs, Explained

The patch notes for MW2 and Warzone Season 6 aim to change the META by making adjustments to many popular guns. The Kastov-762 has received significant nerfs, which are intended to bring balance to its dominance. It has a pick-rate of 33% in competitive Warzone and 5% in MW2 Ranked, making it an extremely powerful weapon. Activision believes that while the Kastov-762 is effective in close-mid range combat, it shouldn’t be the best weapon for all engagements.
I can personally attest to the strength of the Kastov. It is a versatile weapon that has helped me achieve victory in Warzone. It can eliminate enemies from various distances, although its magazine capacity is slightly lower than others with only 40 rounds when equipped with an extended mag attachment. Apart from this minor downside, the Kastov performs exceptionally well.
Due to its dominance in the game, the Kastov-762 has received several significant nerfs in both MW2 and Warzone. Let’s take a closer look at the specific changes:
- Warzone Specific Changes
- Decreased close damage (Warzone Only)
- Increased close damage range (Warzone Only)
- Decreased head damage multiplier (Warzone Only)
- Decreased neck damage multiplier (Warzone Only)
- Decreased upper torso damage multiplier (Warzone Only)
- MW2 Specific Changes
- Reduced close distance damage (MWII Only)
- Reduced close damage range (MWII Only)
- Increased mid damage range (MWII Only)
So what do these changes mean?
In Warzone 2, the balancing changes are targeted at reducing the effectiveness of the Kastov-762 at all ranges. This is because it previously excelled in all engagements and was highly popular among players. Whether it will remain the top assault rifle will become clear in the following weeks as players adapt to the new META.
In contrast, MW2 opts to decrease the damage of the Kastov-762 at close range while improving its performance at mid-range. Players can expect the weapon to deal exceptional damage at mid-range but struggle against more powerful options in close-quarters combat.
It is still uncertain whether these changes are enough to diminish the dominance of this META-defining weapon. Only time will tell how the META evolves and the true impact of these nerfs. In the past, many weapons have undergone multiple nerfs but have managed to remain relevant in the META.
Only time will tell.
