After a lengthy development process and multiple delays, Granblue Fantasy: Relink is finally set to release early next year. Despite the long wait, there was good reason for the extended development time.
TechRaptor recently visited the Cygames Artworks exhibition in Ueno, Tokyo, where they discovered an interesting statement from the game’s director, Tetsuya Fukuhara, regarding the creation of the game’s visuals.
“The world of Granblue Fantasy is built upon countless stunning illustrations. Transforming this iconic artwork into 3D while preserving its unique style was an immense challenge during the development of Granblue Fantasy: Relink.
The islands and the characters have been brought to life with expert precision, staying true to the original illustrations and creating a truly spectacular evolution of the franchise.”
Those familiar with the original Granblue Fantasy mobile game will understand the significance of this statement. Cygames boasts an incredibly talented art team, and Granblue Fantasy represents the pinnacle of their expertise.
Translating the 2D world and characters into a 3D rendition without compromising their essence was a challenge that had to be overcome. Fortunately, based on what has been revealed so far, it seems that Cygames’ developers and artists have succeeded in meeting this monumental challenge, as the game looks absolutely stunning.
Considering that Cygames primarily focuses on mobile games and has limited experience with other platforms, this achievement offers a new perspective on the long development process and delays. After 8 years since its initial reveal, we can finally experience the results of this “monumental” effort, and anticipation is running high.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink will be available on February 1, 2024, for PS5, PS4, and PC.
