sony’s President and CEO Jim Ryan has announced his retirement in March 2024. Hiroki Totoki, the COO/CFO of Sony Group Corporation, will take on Ryan’s duties in October as part of a transition period. Ryan has been with the company for almost 30 years, starting in 1994 and eventually becoming the SIE President and CEO in 2018.

Ryan’s tenure was marked by mixed reviews from the PlayStation community. Although he oversaw the release of previously exclusive PlayStation titles on PC, he did not enjoy the same level of popularity as his predecessors, Kaz Hirai and Andrew House.

In his statement, Ryan mentioned that one of the factors contributing to his decision was the challenge of balancing living in Europe while working in North America. After his long and successful career at Sony, he feels it is time to retire. The identity of Ryan’s successor at SIE remains unknown, but speculations include Shuhei Yoshida and Adam Boyes. Regardless, the transition is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2024, and many are curious to see the outcome of this significant change.
