Engaging in combat, players can unleash various combos, switch leaders to maintain pressure on opponents, and utilize Ninjutsu and Awakening techniques. Each character can choose up to six Ninjutsu abilities for an advantage in battles and can even awaken into a new form for enhanced power. To finish off a battle, players can utilize all their chakra to unleash a powerful Secret Technique, which turns into a Combination Secret Technique with specific character combinations. The game also introduces Simple Control mode, making it easier for newcomers to execute powerful combos. Simple Control Mode complements the familiar style known to players of the Ultimate Ninja STORM series.
By engaging in solo or online battles in NARUTO X BORUTO ULTIMATE NINJA STORM CONNECTIONS, characters can level up and unlock additional customizations and unlockable items, such as Finish scenes. Offline Free Battles allow players to choose their preferred battle style against the computer or participate in offline tournaments. In Online mode, players can sharpen their skills against adversaries worldwide by selecting between Casual Match and Ranked Match. After launch, Online Mode will also feature custom matchmaking, allowing players to challenge opponents of their choice.
In History mode, players can revisit the epic story-based battles from NARUTO, experiencing key moments from the series with anime cutscenes and cinematic battles. Special Story mode unveils a completely new storyline set during the events of BORUTO. Boruto discovers a mysterious individual named Merz who aims to start a war.
