How to get Dipplin in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is a little confusing if you don’t explore Kitakami much and almost impossible if you’re early in the game. The special item that turns Applin into Dipplin is hidden in an inconspicuous corner of the island with no company other than apples and wild Pokémon.
However, getting Diplin is worth it. This new evolution of Applin learns some unique moves and has an excellent set of stats.

How to get Dipplin in Scarlet and Violet
The only way we’ve found so far to get Dipplin in Scarlet and Violet is by evolving it into Applin. You need a special evolution item to do this – the Syrupy Apple – and you can only find that item in Kitakami. If you don’t have the Area Zero Hidden Treasure DLC, you won’t be able to add Dipplin to your Pokedex team.
The first step is, of course, to actually find an Applin, and it’s not as easy as you might think.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet Applin Location
Applin lives in the Mossfell Confluence area of Kitakami – a small grove in the southeastern part of the island – and on mainland Paldea, you can find them at:
- Eastern Province Area One
- Eastern Province Area Two
- Area One of the Southern Province
- Southern Province Area Two
- Tagtree Thicket
The problem comes when it comes to actually finding them. Applins only live in trees, and you can’t see if a Pokemon is in a tree without crashing into it. You will have to defeat the Stony Cliff Titan to unlock the charge. Next, get on your Koraidon or Miraidon, press the left control stick and aim at a tree.
If an Applin doesn’t fall, find another tree and try again. Consider making a snack that attracts Dragon Pokémon to also increase your chances of finding Applin.
If you go through all the nearby trees with no luck, open a picnic, close it, and start again. Picnics reset all the wild Pokemon that swarm that area.
How to evolve Applin into Dipplin – Syrupy Apple Location
The only way for Applin to evolve into Dipplin is when you use a Syrupy Apple, and the only place to get them is in Kitakami’s Mossfell Confluence area. There is a produce box with an honor system where you can pay 500 PokeDollars and get an apple. You have to pay the money, despite it being an honor system. If you don’t have money, go fight some trainers in the nearby field and come back with the money.
Use your Syrupy Apple in Applin, and that’s it.
If you want more Dipplin, we recommend breeding your current Pokemon with a Ditto to get Applin more easily.
Is Dipplin good at Pokemon Scarlet and Violet?
Dipplin is a sturdy cross between Flapple and Appletun, with a good special attack, excellent defense, and pretty decent stats in all other categories except Speed. Dipplin also learns some moves that Applin’s other two evolutions can’t. There’s Syrup Bomb, which deals Grass damage and slows enemies every turn for three turns, and Dragon Pulse, a dragon move that deals special damage. Dipplin can also learn Infestation through Remember Moves, a handy Bug surprise attack.
