Under 500 Hours of Cs:go Played? Half of You Just Turn Your Nose up at it

5 min

On September 27, after more than 10 years of running, CS:GO’s servers went offline. The shooter stayed in the top 10 most played games on Steam all that time, inspired thousands of players worldwide and became an e-sport with prize pools of up to a million dollars.

For the fans, it felt like the end of an era. During the IEM 2023 in Cologne, there was a touching farewell where the whole room was silent. Online, fans shared their memories and talked about how much time they had put into the game over the years.

This made us curious and we asked you how many hours are on your CS:GO speedometer. Here’s what you told us

Over 3,500 of you participated in the survey, with 60 percent stating that they have sunk well over 500 hours into CS:GO. Apparently we set the bar a little low, because a whopping 38 percent have even spent more than 1,000 hours;

Another 28 percent said they’ve played the shooter for over 2,000 hours, and for 17 percent it’s more than 3,000 hours. In the comments, you told us how many more there actually are;

Only 5,120 hours. A good midfield place.

7,000 hours here. Just makes fun, with the right people. Play other things, but many friends only know CS and play nothing else. […]

The large numbers are not surprising, after all CS:GO was online for over 10 years. In that time, quite a bit of game time accumulates on the account, even if you’re not hardcore on the road, but just occasionally play a few rounds with friends on the weekend.

About 40 percent of you have not exceeded the 500-hour limit, with 11 percent still in the solid range of at least 200 hours. 5 percent each voted for the 100 – 200 and 50 – 100 hours options.

In the comments, you told us that the comparatively low number of hours is partly due to the fact that CS:GO can’t keep up with its predecessors in your eyes. The earlier Counter-Strike games appealed to you more than Global Offensive.

CS:GO is by far my least played CS, with just under 120 hours. I even played Condition Zero for 180 hours. With all the e-sports and matchmaking, any fun in CS:GO was optimized out. 1.6 and Source, on the other hand, I still play today […]

In CS:GO, it’s just under 100 hours for me. At that time (Beta 3 to 1.6) it was certainly also in the four-digit range.

About 11 percent of all participants stated that they have never played CS:GO before.

However, the end of the CS:GO era also became the beginning of Counter-Strike 2. The servers went online on September 27 and were immediately overrun. The shooter took off with over 1.5 million players and immediately rose to the top of Steam titles with the most active players, and the reviews are very positive. Have you tried CS2 yet? Tell us about it in the comments!
