When you choose to play as a Paladin in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will encounter three subclasses. However, there is a hidden subclass that is not immediately visible called the Oath Breaker Paladin. To unlock this subclass, certain actions need to be taken.

Where Does the Baldur’s Gate 3 Oath Breaker Paladin Come From?
When you start the game and choose your subclass, you take an oath as a Paladin. Each subclass has different conditions that need to be fulfilled in order to break the oath and unlock the Oath Breaker Paladin subclass. Let’s explore what needs to be done for each subclass:

Oath of the Ancients
The in-game description of the Oath of the Ancients is as follows: You fight on the side of light in the cosmic struggle against darkness, protecting the sanctity of life and the beauty of nature.
- You can kill innocent people.
- In the first part of the game, free the goblin named Sazza in the Druid camp with the Tieflings.
- Kill the pohua (owlbear) and its child.
- Resurrect Mayrina’s husband.
- Kill the Pandirna in the Druid camp.
- Kill a dog named Itch.
- Kill the guards who try to arrest you if you commit a crime in the third part of the game.
Oath of Vengeance
In-game explanation: By putting aside your own naivete, you dispense justice to those who have committed unforgivable sins and rectify mistakes.
- In the first part of the game, free the goblin named Sazza in the Druid camp with the Tieflings.
- Kill a dog named Itch.
- In the third part of the game, if you commit a crime, kill the guards who try to arrest you.
Oath of Devotion
In-game description: Following the ideals of brave knights, you act with honor and virtue on the path of supreme goodness.
- Torture Liam at the goblin camp.
- Allow Arka to kill the goblin named Sazza in the Druid camp.
- Kill the Tieflings who captured Lae’zel.
- Kill an innocent person.
- Kill a dog named Itch.
- When you break your oath, you will temporarily receive a debuff and your character will say “As if I lost something.” After the war is over, a short cinematic will play, and you will see the Oath Breaker Paladin.
A character will approach you and invite you to the camp. If you accept the offer, you will become the Oath Breaker Paladin.
The abilities of your current subclass will be replaced by the abilities of the Oath Breaker Paladin. If you want to switch back to your previous class, you will need to repeat your oath. You can retake the oath by visiting the oath-breaking paladin in your camp and paying 1000 gold.
