More than 150 new features are promised by Microsoft with update 23H2.

Update from September 25: The 23H2 update for Windows 11 is coming at a later date after all. In a blog post, Microsoft is now only talking about the fourth quarter as a release date. Only the Microsoft Copilot is supposed to appear as planned next week as part of the regular cumulative update.

Original news from September 21: In less than a week, Microsoft releases its next major feature update for Windows 11, which goes by the name 23H2 and is all about artificial intelligence.

We have summarized all the information about the star of the show, the Microsoft Copilot, in a separate news item.

Find out what other highlights are coming with the update 23H2 here.

Windows 11 23H2: This is new

Much-wanted taskbar feature: With 23H2, multiple windows of the same program can be displayed as not grouped side by side.

New File Explorer and Start Page: Microsoft gives these central elements of Windows 11 a new coat of paint and brings much-wanted features.

Strengthened Paint app: With 23H2, however, Paint gets a number of feature updates. These include the ability to crop objects with one click and make the background disappear via AI.

Unpacking without external programs: From this update you don’t need any third-party programs to unpack .rar, .7zip and a number of other data types.

Backup app: Libraries, apps and settings can be backed up via the new app in OneDrive.

Home page for settings: If you open the settings, you now get to an overview page where you can find the last settings you made.

Besides these changes, a whole bunch of other things are supposed to change. Microsoft itself talks about about 150 new features in the update – although not every one of them should be earth-shattering.

How to install the update 23H2

As usual, you can trigger the update after the release on September 27th in the corresponding area of the settings. Press the key combination [Win] + [I] and then go to the Windows Update section.

There you should be able to find the new version and start the installation. After restarting the system, 23H2 will be installed on your computer.
